Angelina Jolie Books Cornwell Movie Deal

Lesbian crime writer Patricia Cornwell is teaming up with Fox 2000 to adapt her best-selling book series on medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta, with Angelina Jolie slated to play the lead role.

Though the first film won’t be tied to a particular book, if successful, a franchise may be developed from Cornwell’s 16 Scarpetta novels.

Fox had been in negotiations with the author for some months, but the deal finally came after Jolie and her manager sat down with Cornwell and found common ground regarding the creative direction of the feature adaptation.

According to Daily Variety, a tie-up between Cornwell, one of the best-selling authors in the world, and Jolie, one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood, could be very lucrative for Fox.
